Dirty Room

The noise suffocates,
its heavy tendrils twining round
There’s boisterous conversation
raucous laughter
alien voices
and I make no sound

We could be friends
or so they say
but actions speak louder than words
They talk and talk
the chatter hurts
I try to speakbut know I’m not heard

Invasion of private space
no, they’re not sorry
I see them there
but not at all
as I lay submerged deep
in my own melancholy

It’s nice to say
I’m not alone
But not to think
I’m not at home
